Real wolves vs picture book wolves.
The predatory wolf of picture books travels alone, he lives alone and he is often depicted as the intruder in the forest. In reality wolves live in family packs, and if they live alone it is only for a short time. Real wolves care for their families, they use aggression as a last resort and are afraid of people.
Through illustration and critical theory, I am exploring the techniques used, composition, anthropomorphism, metaphor and so on to discover how bad wolves are made. Then, I ask how can I create a different wolf? Here I am experimenting with pastels and pencil and connections with real biological wolves through the addition of real biological elements.
All my art materials are vegan, recycled and re-used.
Thanks to Sarah Irving for the little crochet wolf.
